How to Prepare for Your Consultation

A few minutes of preparation helps Joy give you the most useful guidance. Bring what you have — don't worry about what you don't.

  • Write down your one-sentence degree goal: "I want to earn a [degree] in [field] so I can work as [role]"
  • List your prior college coursework, military training, and any CLEP/DSST exams already passed
  • Have your Joint Services Transcript (JST) on hand if you have one — request it at jst.doded.mil
  • Note your GI Bill® chapter (e.g., Post-9/11, MGIB) if known — UCSG does not determine eligibility
  • Bring 2–3 questions you most want answered (cost, format, transfer credit, timeline)

What We Can Discuss

Topics Joy can help you think through during your free consultation.

  • Your short-term and long-term career goals
  • How military experience and prior coursework might count toward a degree
  • Online, hybrid, and on-campus format trade-offs
  • How to think about total program cost — not just per-credit tuition
  • Questions to ask a School Certifying Official (SCO)
  • How to compare accredited programs side-by-side

All times shown in your local timezone. UCSG is an independent education consulting organization and is not affiliated with the VA. The VA determines all benefit eligibility, entitlement, and payment decisions. Opening the calendar does not confirm an appointment — you select and confirm your slot inside the booking tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the consultation free?
Yes. The veteran education consultation is free, with no enrollment commitment. Joy will review your goals and offer guidance — the next move is always yours.
Do I need my DD-214 or SSN to talk with Joy?
No. UCSG does not request, collect, or store DD-214 forms, SSNs, VA claim numbers, disability ratings, or medical information. You submit those directly to the VA or your chosen institution. Joy will only ask about your degree goals, prior coursework, and preferred format.
Can Joy tell me if I qualify for GI Bill® benefits?
No. UCSG is independent and not affiliated with the VA. The VA determines all benefit eligibility and payment decisions. Joy can help you find official information at va.gov/education and prepare questions to ask your School Certifying Official — but the VA is the final authority on benefits.
